4/19/2017 Erie Bluffs State Park

As spring time warms up this Erie weather, we’ve been venturing out to hike in new places. We’d like to introduce Erie Bluffs State Park to your radar folks, as it’s a great place to get outdoors away from home that isn’t far from home.

Founded in 2004 the Bluffs are one of Pennsylvania’s newer parks, and it’s only 12 miles outside of Erie off of Route 5. The woods in this park are full of wildlife that are often seen as hikers walk the trails including deer, hawks, eagles, squirrels, rabbits and other animals. The park is 587 acres and has one mile of shoreline where you can find the 90 foot bluffs that the park is named for. It doesn’t take very long to get to the bluffs from the entrance of the park, so be careful!

This park is also home to several plant species of interest including black oak woodlands, sand barren ecosystems, and even some forested wetlands.  This park is for daylight hour use only aside from boating on the lake and fishing.  Pack up the car and visit the park for a few hours as a new place to adventure! Make sure to be careful once you’ve entered the woods so the bluffs don’t surprise you!
